ARTIST STATEMENT — Roses in Bloom Series
These paintings begin with a rose and arrive somewhere else entirely.
Each work in this ongoing series captures a moment in the life of a bloom from early opening to full, loosening expansion as a meditation on the mid-life transition of perimenopause. The rose is not a symbol here so much as a mirror: layered, alive, releasing what no longer holds.
La Beauté au Naturel, the work that began the series, was selected for the 2025 SCA Juried Exhibition. Since then, the series has been shown at the 2026 Riverdale Artwalk (Toronto) and Art in the Park (Ottawa), where it sparked deep, spontaneous conversations with women navigating their own mid-life chapters.
Each stage is its own chapter. Each painting, its own kind of waiting.
